sample2_certified.gifNoordwijk, 14 July, 2006: Due to strong market demands, the SatLabs Group has set up a dedicated Working Group to develop a DVB-S2 profile and associated tests for SatLabs certified terminals.

With DVB-S2, DVB-RCS terminals will make the promise of lower service delivery cost a reality. The SatLabs certification programme will guarantee the interoperability of terminals that support DVB-S2:
  • The use of the DVB-S2 in CCM (Constant Coding and Modulation) or ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation) mode will reduce significantly the satellite capacity required and thus the associated transmission costs,
  • DVB-S2 can also allow an improved link margin leading to increased availability or extended coverage,
  • DVB-S2 provides a large range of C/I ratios and spectral efficiencies, thereby allowing a great network design flexibility,
  • The standardised use of different roll-off factors allows for more efficient space segment usage.
The SatLabs System Recommendations document is currently being updated by the SatLabs group in order to incorporate this DVB-S2 profile to the next phase of the SatLabs certification program, which is planned to be ready before the end of this year.
