15 February 2005: The SatLabs Qualification Program and certification process are set to begin within the first quarter of 2005, when the appointed SatLabs Qualification Laboratory will operate the Common Test Bed.
CETECOM have significant experience with DVB-RCS and, due to their involvement with SatLabs, also have a perfect knowledge of the SatLabs Qualification Programme and associated test equipment. As a consequence, they are in a position to start qualification testing as soon as possible which is important for DVB-RCS stakeholders.
CETECOM will have access to the SatLabs Test Bed that is currently being validated.
The forerunner in the selection process, Nemko Comlab, will act as a backup to CETECOM. In preparation, Comlab will train personnel in the SatLabs Qualification Programme using the SatLabs Test Bed.
The agreement with CETECOM and Comlab will be valid for one year. After this, the DVB-RCS testing market situation will be reviewed and either a second test laboratory will be appointed or a new selection process will be carried out between the two laboratories.
Both CETECOM and Nemko Comlab are global test houses with test centres spread worldwide. This offers the additional advantage that the qualification testing could easily be carried out in different geographical areas in order to reduce test time and cost.
